What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?
Yes, another holiday we actually celebrate here. It’s everyone getting together and enjoy Sámi culture and all of the things that make it special. I want next February to have my own Sámi gákti so I really feel a part of it on several important identity levels.
We eat traditional food, learn about Sámi history and listening to modern Sámi music. Speaking Sámi language together and seeing real duodji (Sámi handcraft) and we watch films.
I’m happy to say I enjoy this holiday, it’s important not to just make this a free day but keeping it a normal school day so youth are interested in learning more about Sámi topics and identity.
