Several

Think back on your most memorable road trip.

Yes, several.

The New Years Eve in -32°C outside. We had to drive on New Years Eve for different reasons, based on my grandmother and mother difficult experiences. Did I say too much?

The red days came suddenly. We were driving and then the womanhood curse start without my protection. I was relived when I finally came home, and I said no word to the other people in the car. I was 14, turning 15. Earlier that year I had an accident in the backseat of the car and I was deeply embarrassed for months afterwards.

Tana trip. It was winter 2019 and I was in hospital for different serious reasons and took taxi to be at the psychiatric unit in Tana. The taxi driver was a young foreign man from Central Asian region. As I mentioned last year he was funny, he made a joke about me killing an elk to bring to Tana 😂🇧🇻✨️ It’s a long drive, like around 6 hours one way. Our county is large and the distances are vast between towns, lots of nature to see.

So those are some memorable road trips. I hope your days are good and thank you for reading ❤

Torne River Valley trip

Daily writing prompt
Think back on your most memorable road trip.

I’m going to write about this trip again, mentioned this wonderful holiday on my other blog last year.

Some background: Me and my grandmother are members of a local Kven group and through this group also members of one of the larger organisations for Kven people in Norway. Kven people have deep origins in Finnish speaking regions of Northern Sweden and Northern Finland (mostly Lapland), some (like our family) have other Finnish roots as well, for instance we are also distantly Karelian and Savonian of origins.

okay, back to the trip: we started in Norway and travel down along the Torne River Valley regions, crossing along the border every day with our tourist bus. The Finnish forests are a major part of the trip, and we spent time walking outside and enjoy the Finnish summer. We stayed at several hotels on our travels and I really liked the different activities we had with the group, genealogy related, history and culture. The weather was mostly wonderful and fun times every day.

I love being of Finnish roots ❤
