Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

One of my three given names is Torunn. It’s of Norse origin and it’s meaning is ‘loved by Thor’ an essential god in Norse mythology. And I have a close male relative named Thor/Tor so it’s very much meaningful in this sense as well.

My other names are both Norse origin names. One means ‘gift of the Sun’ and other name close in meaning to ‘ancestors struggle’. All three are quite important to my identity.

I chose my given names last year after some time thinking of changes to my everyday life and my true self in terms of names and heritage. I’m proud of my roots, including my Norwegian ancestors and the ethnic minority groups I also belong to culturally and of genetics. I’m around 21% ethnicity estimate Finnish and I love Finland deeply as well as being Sámi, it’s all connected.

So yes, I’m loved by Thor. The god of thunder, literally. I’m not afraid of the sound and feeling of thunderstorm, even if I stay inside during them.
